The cover-up that never was
Dear Judith,
Does China really think that it can even attempt to say that the US government stepped in to cover up Google’s attempt at dominating the chinese internet market? I think that once they see that Google isn’t trying to dominate the internet, they will understand that you cannot control everything. Escpecially something that is intangible. It’s almost like trying to limit God to the laws of the US or to the Laws of England. You cannot control God because there is no physical way that we can know that he exists. The internet is something that is run by companies all over the world. If China wants to control the internet, then they will have to take control of the companies that own the servers of the internet. In effect, China would have to take over the world. I don’t think that anyone really wants the Chinese government controlling what they can and cannot do on the internet. It is the one place that, while being constrained by laws, is otherwise free. If China were to try to make a statement like the one that they did in the article, they would be very foolish. Here’s the link
